Our Doctors
Dr. William Gunther
Dr. Gunther became the owner in 1995. He recently step down from being owner in 2025. He is the senior-most veterinarian on staff. He received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine at Michigan State University in 1983. When not at work, Dr. Gunther enjoys playing his guitars, taking cruises, and spending time with his wife, Elaine.
Dr. Sarah Marak
Dr. Marak moved to Vermont from Missouri in August 2017 with her husband, Paul. She became a co-owner of Champlain Veterinary Clinic in April 2020. Sarah received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Missouri in 2015. In 2024, Dr. Marak welcomed her daughter. When not chasing her toddler, she loves walking her two dogs, Newton and Sirius, as well as sneaking a few belly rubs from her two cats, Mad-Eye and Grindelwald.
Dr. Sonya Zehle
A life-long Vermonter, Dr. Sonya grew up in Essex and went to UVM. She accomplished her life-long dream of becoming a veterinarian by graduating from Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine. She is grateful to be practicing medicine in Vermont and has a special interest in behavioral and internal medicine and establishing long lasting relationships with clients. Outside of the clinic, Dr. Sonya enjoys spending time with her family and exploring the outdoors. As of 2025, Dr. Zehle became co-owner of Champlain Veterinary Clinic.
Our Staff
Alicia
Alicia has been with us since 2020. When not at work, she loves spending quality time with her husband, Mark, and her six kids. She also enjoys walking with her dogs, Arlo, Finn, and Bean. She can frequently be found in her garden, at the swimming hole, or at the gym.
Casee
Casee is a native Vermonter born and raised on a dairy farm in the NEK. She has been in the veterinary field for over 15 years as a front desk team member. She has two darling senior cats at home named Walter and Izzy, and is excited to add a French Bulldog puppy to her pet family! When not found at the office she enjoys cooking, music, writing and traveling with her loved ones.
Grace
Grace is a Vermont native who has been a valued member of our team since 2021. A Fear Free Certified technician, she has a special interest in animal behavior and began her career in shelter medicine in 2018. She is continually seeking new ways to expand her knowledge and skills, and she is deeply passionate about providing compassionate care to the community she serves. Outside of work, Grace enjoys reading, creating handmade jewelry, and taking mini road trips with her significant other. At home, she shares her life with her two cats, Salem and Hunter, and her horse, Holladay.
Micaela
Micaela has been part of the Champlain Veterinary Clinic team since July 2022. She is currently studying to become a certified veterinary technician and brings valuable experience from her previous work in human healthcare. Over time, she discovered that her true passion lies in caring for animals. Micaela loves time with her daughter, relaxing with a good book, and keeping her dog, Brewer, on his best behavior.
Cathy
Cathy has been working at Champlain Veterinary Clinic for 32 years, initially working with one of the founders, Dr. Larry Larrow. She enjoys working with all the creatures, great and small, but is especially fond of cats. In her spare time, Cathy loves gardening, walking her Dalmatian, Tristan, and spending time with her family.
Nicole
Nicole has been a veterinary technician for over 15 years. She is a graduate of Vermont Technical College’s Veterinary Technician program. She is a life long Vermonter and her love for animals was fostered growing up in the Westford, Vermont countryside surrounded by domestic and wild animals. In her spare time she can be found gaming, reading, biking, watching movies, or just hanging out with family and friends.
Paul
Paul works part-time at Champlain Veterinary Clinic, where he brings steady dedication and a supportive presence to the team. Outside of work, he enjoys woodworking and baseball, two hobbies that help him unwind and stay creative. Paul is a proud father to his daughter and is excited to welcome another child soon.
Mashed Potato
Mashed Potato was a stray cat that kept roaming into Dr. Zehle's neighbor's garage. While attempts were made to find him a home, he ended up stealing our hearts. He never lets the staff forget that he is the keeper of the food bowl and turns his tail, when he gets ask if he is pregnant.

Payment is due at the time services are rendered. Unfortunately, we do not currently offer payment plans. We do accept a variety of payment options such as cash, credit card, and CareCredit.
No-Show Policy
Our No-Show Policy
A no-show appointment is failure to show up for your appointment, arriving more than 10 minutes late for your appointment without prior notice, or cancelling less than 24 hours of notice. To help reduce the number of no-show appointment, we will be charging a non-refundable $50 per patient no-show fee that must be paid prior to scheduling another appointment or being seen at our establishment.
